The Business Side of Writing
April 3, 2014
Being that it's Spring Break week, you may think I would report that I've slept in until ten all week and relaxed. That sounds good, but it hasn't happened! My body still tells me it's time to get up for work so I've been waking up around my usual time. That's okay though; there is work to be done!
This has been a very busy week for Coby! I've approved several new illustrations and have been busy working on the business side of writing. Business cards are in, along with Coby and Lainey bookmarks. Stickers featuring Coby and Lainey have also arrived. I will be giving away bookmarks, stickers, and folders to children at the Dayton Book Expo on May 3rd. My niece has informed me that she will be receiving one of everything!
My marketing efforts for my education books have slowed down dramatically as I shift gears to Coby. The last of my promotional postcards, which I have been mailing to school districts across the country, are well on their way to California. I also transitioned my Facebook page from education-related to Coby. This was all bittersweet. Had I not released my first two books for teachers, I don't know that there would be a Coby. Through those experiences, I learned so much about the writing, printing, and publishing processes. I also learned a lot about myself. My past brought me to my present. So, as I renamed the page, deleted old pictures and posts, and added new pictures and posts, it was an ending and a new beginning. Because I believe that there is a need for Coby and his message, I need to give as much attention as I can to this new series.
While I have stayed busy working this break, I also know it's important to give attention to myself and have fun. For Christmas, my fiance gave me a gift card for a massage which I cashed in yesterday...it was just what I needed! Also, one of my best friends from high school was in town this week so it was great catching up.
As my Spring Break comes to a close, I'm happy to return to work! Speaking of work, I guess I'd better grade this last stack of papers...
